Sede de EBAIS de La Ribera de Belén

The Costa Rican Social Security Fund (Caja Costarricense del Seguro Social – CCSS) is the public institution in charge of social security in Costa Rica with the goal of providing health and social protection services to the population. Recognizing the positive impact of green building on the environment and the well-being of communities, the fund is leading the construction of green public hospitals in Costa Rica.

Sede de EBAIS de La Ribera de Belén, one of CCSS’ green hospitals, is a provider of basic health services to a population of 9,500 individuals in La Ribera. The hospital facility offers services ranging from primary care consultations and treatments to laboratory and nursing operations.

The building incorporates occupancy sensors, rainwater harvesting systems and natural ventilation. Solar photovoltaics will provide 25 percent of total energy demand, enough to generate daily energy needs for lighting. As a result, Sede de EBAIS de La Ribera de Belén is expected to realize estimated utility cost savings of 788,887 colones (US$1,396) per month.

Sede de EBAIS de La Ribera de Belén has received final EDGE certification from the Green Building Council Costa Rica.
