Ciudadela Monteflor

Ciudadela Monteflor

The Ciudadela Monteflor sits perched on a hill overlooking the town of Sabaneta, a suburb of Medellín. Described as a “citadel,” the complex consists of 985 apartments and four 25-floor buildings which tower over others in the area. Residents of Ciudadela Monteflor can have access to the complex’s common areas, an outdoor pool and sports courts. Each of the two and three-bedroom units have a balcony to enjoy the view of the city and surrounding mountains. The towers are also strategically oriented to take advantage of natural shading from the sun and maximize energy efficiency.

By using honeycomb clay blocks and less concrete in floor and roof construction, Ciudadela Monteflor saves up to 52% in embodied energy in materials. The project also reduces energy and water with the help of external shading devices, single-flush water closets and more, ultimately lowering the carbon footprint and utility bills of residents.

For Arconsa, the developer of Ciudadela Monteflor, sustainability is an integral part of their company mission. They make sure all of their projects protect the environment and encourage the local development of the communities in which they build homes. Since 1945, the company has built homes and warehouses across the city and surrounding area of Medellín.

Ciudadela Monteflor has received a preliminary EDGE certificate from CAMACOL.
