Private and Pediatric Cardiology Wing Building

Private and Pediatric Cardiology Wing Building

With its new Private and Pediatric Cardiology wing, the National Cardiovascular Center Harapan Kita will serve up to 545 patients by the time construction is completed in 2022. The National Cardiovascular Center Harapan Kita, also known as the Rumah Sakit Jantung dan Pembuluh Darah Harapan Kita (RSJPDHK), is part of the Pusat Jantung Nasional Harapan Kita multi-specialty hospital that has served residents of Jakarta since 1985.

As a leader in cardiovascular services, education and research in Indonesia, the government-run teaching hospital will greatly improve its capacity to serve patients with the expansion of the Private and Pediatric Cardiology wing. The hospital is also designed to minimize its use of natural resources. With energy-efficient air conditioning and insulated walls and roofing, the hospital consumes less energy, while water-efficient faucets and a rainwater harvesting system reduce the use of water. Construction materials such as autoclaved aerated concrete blocks also reduce embodied energy in materials by 65%. These green measures were added at very little cost to the hospital, which is expected to recover its savings in less than one year.

The National Cardiovascular Center Harapan Kita is situated in a densely populated area of Jakarta and surrounded by the Harapan Kita Women and Children Center and the National Cancer Center Dharmais. To prevent disruption within the hospital as much as possible, the Private and Pediatric Cardiology wing will be built in several stages. The Private and Pediatric Cardiology wing has received a preliminary EDGE certificate from Green Building Council Indonesia.
