GRUPAK Corrugado Hidalgo – Industria

Grupak, a Mexican company with more than 60 years in the corrugated cardboard packaging and paper industry, has opened a new corrugated packaging plant in Hidalgo.

Resource-efficient technologies and design were incorporated into the plant to reduce energy and water usage. The technologies include reflective paint, insulation, LED lighting, water-efficient plumbing fixtures, and a rainwater harvesting systems. Skylights were also incorporated into the design to provide daylight to more than 50 percent of the floor area.

The new plant is aligned with Grupak’s commitment to sustainable operations and to the care of the environment and available natural resources. Grupak extends this commitment to their products, offering high quality and one hundred percent recyclable goods. The company’s operations system also aligns with the FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) scheme, which guarantees their commitment to environmental management. Grupak also operates in Cuernavaca (corrugated paper and packaging plant), Toluca (corrugated packaging plant), Hidalgo (paper and corrugated packaging plant), and with six suppliers for the collection of recycled fiber and offices corporations in Mexico City.

Technical Solutions

Energy

Reduced window-to-wall ratio, reflective paint/tiles for the roof, insulation of the roof and external walls, low-E coated glass, energy-saving lighting in internal and external areas, and skylights to provide daylight to 50 percent of the top floor area.

Water

Water-efficient water closets and urinals, aerators for faucets, a rainwater harvesting system, and a black water treatment and recycling system.

Materials

In-situ reinforced concrete slab for the floor, steel sheets on steel rafters and composite in-situ concrete and steel deck for the roof, plasterboards and precast concrete panels for external walls and ceramic tile flooring.
